Two months ago Kelly Slater publicly endorsed World Surfing Reserves
(in addition to National Surfing Reserves, Aus), at a media event in
Bondi Beach, Australia. Thanks to Drew Kampion for making the invitation and
Brad Farmer for being present to host the Champ. Since then Kelly
has been busy winning contests and running for his 10th World Title!
WSR seeks to identify and enshrine the most important and cherished surf areas around the world, in partnership with local surf communities. WSR sites are nominated and selected based on four major criteria: quality and consistency of waves, importance to surf culture and history, environmental
characteristics, and community support. As part of the mission, the
symbolic and sacred value of these places is celebrated with each WSR designation and enshrinement.
